ACT only??

Hey guys,

I was looking on the Yale FAQ regarding the standard testing section because I was wondering if I could choose to send only my ACT and SAT2 and score choice out my SAT 1 (Collegeboard says I have to send them all, but I was a little doubtful).
I then read that I was able to send my ACT+writing OR/AND my SAT1/SATIIs to the Yale admissions. I was a little confused by this because I always thought that universities needed both ACT+writing and SAT 2 or SAT 1 + SAT2, and now this is saying I am able to send ACT+writing only, and leave my SAT 1 and SAT2 behind??? Can somebody clarify this???

I believe that you are correct in that you can submit the ACT/Writing and don’t need to submit the SAT nor SAT II.

Do other ivies follow this same pattern? I find this strange because the other schools im applying to (including the UCs and Stanford) require SAT 2 no matter if u turn in ACT or SAT 1…

I’m applying to Yale with only my ACT and Writing. I’ve read over the guidelines a few times, and I feel that it’s pretty clear that if you send SAT II’s, you must also send SAT I. One thing to remember is Yale wants all scores for whatever you send. So, for example, I took the ACT twice. I sent an offical score report for my highest and filled in the scores on my first ACT on the Yale Supplement which gives you plenty of room for this. (They’re simply trying to save you money.)

As for the other Ivies, as far as I know, Yale is fairly unique in this testing choice. For my other schools (incl. Princeton and Harvard), I sent my ACT and SAT II’s. I don’t know why Yale is different, but I’m sure they have their reasons.

Stanford does not require subject tests, but will look at them if you send them in.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the excellent comments. Whats worrying me about Yale though is that if I send only my ACT + writing, but put down SAT 2 on my common app for the other schools, will they get mad or suspicious??

I am only sending my ACT + Writing.

Other schools that do this:
Brown
UChicago (will even accept the ACT without writing)

Make alternate versions of the CA for schools with different score reporting policies.

Does anyone how seriously Yale would take just sending in ACTs with the Writing and not sending in SATs, especially if the ACT score is in the 30s (34-36)?

Y treats ACT and SAT reporting equally.
