@HereToHelpYou I should bring this .pdf with me http://www.testingtimers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/ABCArticle.pdf ? And it’s credible?
Yes. That is what my student bring with them.
This is the key section to highlight for the proctor.
The watch was also built with the restrictions of the ACT and the College Board (the company that
distributes the SATs) in mind. The College Board and the ACT told ABC News that there are restrictions
on some watches, but that because the Testing Timers don’t vibrate, make noises or have any computing
functionality they should be in the clear.
“Wrist watches, many of which have countdown timers on them, are allowed,” Jason Baran, a
spokesperson for the Educational Testing Service and the SATs, told ABC News.
“We can’t comment on any particular brands, but there are a number of watch timers on the market, and
students can wear a watch as long as it meets our requirements – that is, it doesn’t have cell phone
capabilities and doesn’t make noise (alarms are prohibited in the testing room),” Ed Colby, a spokesperson
for ACT told, ABC News.
I have to tell you though, that even with this documentation, some proctors did not allow students to wear the watch.
I have a stopwatch that counts up (not a timer that counts down and could beep a few seconds before time is officially called) on my digital watch; nobody has said anything about it.
Reading is always the one I struggle with pacing in, though I’ve just memorized the markers: 8:45, 17:30, 26:25, 35:00 (as I desperately try to keep within the window for each one).
I see no reason why a regular digital watch with an inbuilt stop watch function isn’t just as effective as this ACT pacing watch.
Apparently you haven’t seen the ACT watch.
I sort of agree with @outlooker in a different sense. From what I’ve heard, it paces you in a different way than you would be used to with a regular stopwatch. Wouldn’t this be something to like practice with before taking the actual ACT right away? I mean, it would for sure need some getting used to wouldn’t it?
I have learned to efficiently pace myself with my watch’s timer that counts up. I came here to ask of some solid reasons from you guys why I would need the ACT pacing watch. Main point with this, I don’t want $50 to go down the drain. Is this more of a want or more of a need? Thanks for your time.
