Was reading about the ACT and in a heavily SAT area, had no clue what is was; however, I think it looked interestig and would like to take it, but I have questions.

How often is the ACT given out? How long do you prepare for it? Is it easier or harder than SAT?
I do well in school and did well on my first PSAT, but am worried about overloading myself- Can you advise me of when to take it?
Projected Junior Year-
Summer-Sept.- PSAT/SAT prep
October- PSAT
November-December- self-SAT prep
January-February- self-stuff and either course or tutor
March-SAT
April-May- AP Test prep
May- June- SAT 2s

I can probably relaz with the SAT prep from time to time, but when should I fit an ACT in there? Or should I take it early senior year?

What types of courses should I have done before I take the ACT?

Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

Any time you want to.....the score reporting if different than the SAT. For the ACT you choose which Composite score you want to send. They dont send them all. So take it as many times as you want.

In New York, the ACT is given in October, December, April, and June. It sounds like you're pretty busy, and like the ACT is a lower priority than these other tests, so I'd suggest concentrating on the other test prep you already have planned, maybe try to work in a practice test just so you know what to expect. The Preparing for the ACT booklet has a practice test and is available online here: http://www.actstudent.org/pdf/preparing.pdf; your counselor's office might have paper copies (it's in the reg packet if they have that). Then you could take it in April or June of your Junior year, see how you score, and then decide if you want to do some more serious prep and take it again in September. You could wait until then to send any scores to colleges, and with the ACT you can just choose your best test to report.
