ACT reading vs. SAT reading

When I do the SAT long critical reading passages, I just go right into the
questions and look for answers using line references that are given.
But for the ACT, I cannot do it since there are no line references except a
very few. So, basically, do I have to read(skim) passages first and then do
questions?
And also, are there any tactics that I can use for the ACT reading section?

Just read it and answer the questions, it's always worked for me.

Work quickly! I always finish in the SAT with tons of time… but that wasn’t the case for me on ACT

^ACT reading was BRUTAL compared to SAT reading
first of all, the questions on the ACT reading are easier and more straightforward, but the passages are really long, and there is too little time
i always have time on the SAT reading

(i got 28 on ACT reading, and 750 on SAT critical reading) <–huge difference, prob cuz on the ACT i randomly guessed on the last questions cuz i ran out of time and there was no guessing penalty

^very strange, i am the complete opposite as you. i got a 670 on sat reading but 36 on act reading. idk why this happens, but wow idk how you got so high on the sat that would almost never happen with me

if there are no line references, try maybe looking at the questions first. i know for me whenever time is a problem, if there are any questions that dont need full reading of the passage, try them first. then, once you answer all of them, you will probably have a sufficient if not good idea about what the passage is about

ACT is harder in my opinion due to time constraints, and lack of line numbering.

SAT follows a very formulaic CR pattern - answer is almost always stated or given in a subtle manner.

ACT is intuitive - not necessarily logic but more intuition. If you intuition is good, and you read a lot, you’ll have more success on the ACT.
