ACT/SAT Score Comparison

Hey all,

I'm wondering if somebody could compare the scores of ACTs and SATs? The ACT is scored in an odd manner, having 32-36 composite being 99 percentile. I'm assuming that the essay is the deciding factor upon which score one receives. The SAT on the other hand, has distinct percentiles. So, what would the equivalent of a 32 ACT be on the SAT? What about 36 ACT?

Thanks in advance,
Romanian

don't know the exact score to score comparison....

BUT...on the ACT the essay is NOT THE DECIDING FACTOR

it actually has no bearing on your composite score- if you get a 32 on the multiple choice and write a perfect (12) essay, your score stays the same

likewise if you score a 32 on the MC and write an atrocious essay (2 being the lowest) you still get a 32

woowski is correct; the essay has no effect on the composite score.

There are different conversion charts. The one I'm looking at (from Collegeboard) says:

32 -> 1420
33 -> 1470
34 -> 1520
35 -> 1580
36 -> 1600

I took the ACT in 10th grade with about one week of very light prepping and scored a 33.

I took the SAT this year with about 1 1/2 mo. of intensive prep (countless practice tests), not including the 1 mo. of PSAT prep, and scored a 2290 (1540 CR and M).

So I think the ACT tests a little more on what you already know and have learned, and the SAT is a little more of.. well, how good you are at taking the SAT.
