ACT Scores

Hey I have some quick questions, what are decent and typical ACT scores? Also, how much of an influence do they play compared to the SAT? Or is one better set to have both ACT and SAT scores in? Does it help any to have both?

I got mine in today, and I personally thought they were harder than the SAT's but these were my scores (I have NO clue what they mean, or where I stand)

English: 22 - 65%'tile
Math: 21 - 60%'tile
Reading: 25 - 75%'tile
Science: 21 - 58%tile
Composite: 22 - 65%'tile

(Thats a lot of questions, hehehe)

Thanks in advance for any help!

i would suggest taking both and as many times as possible. one is not considered better than the other...as far as my ACT score goes..i had a 31 my SAT was a 1330...and i was waitlisted at first...obviously i got in but yeah...keep taking them!!! good luck!!

I got a 1330 on the SAT and a 30 on the ACT. However, I got a 34 on math and 32 english, reading and science were both 27 and brought it down. I took a prep course which helped a ton and would definately suggest it to anyone.

And I believe Maryland is a very competitive state. You'll need the best scores possible. Prep and then prep some more.

I would think admissions would consider the higher of the two scores.

I have a question also. I decided I would take the ACT in September. Should I take the optional writing test, or would it not matter?

From what I have heard, USNA converts the ACT score into an SAT score. How they exactly compute a conversion is anyone's guess (I know there are charts out there, but USNA may be different). Both are weighted the same, that is why they convert them.

I got a....
710 Math, 720 Writing ( 10 essay ), and 690 Critical reading on ym second try. I think I'm going to take it one more time.

yeah I had a 29 on my ACTs. My science brought it was down though. I had 31 English, 30 Math, 33 Reading, and 23 Science. Do we have take the writing?

Glitter :o very nice. I only got 790 math 620 verbal (SAT I) I'm going to retake to try to get higher critical reading, I've had 2 english classes since I took it, so I'm expecting improvement.

My test scores panned out as follows:

-ACT
-English, Reading 32
-Math 33
-Reading 33
-Science 36
-English, Writing 32
-English, Essay 11
-Composite 34

-SAT
-Verbal 730
-Math 750
-Writing 690 (oof..)
-Essay 11

I personally liked the ACT better, I found it to be a much more enjoyable test to take since it is much more achievement-based than the SAT necessarily is.

Man, I suck compared to all of you people!

(I havent taken any prep classes or anything, I think I should get into that)

ColbyBuss - the one thing against you is Maryland - one of the toughest venues to get an appointment. Two SS mids my daughter has stayed in contact with are going to West Point and USAFA respectively BUT didn't even get considered at USNA. Both are Maryland residents.

Get to SS if possible. Make some connections. The contacts made by my daughter during SS and again during CVW have proved invaluable.

yea, Maryland has been a very evil thing so far, lol

I didnt get into SS, and am going to be applying for the NROTC Scholarships, USNA, prob USAFA, and their scholarships as well. Basically, I probably am going to try to get into USNA even if I dont make it my first try (which i have told myself to live with already) and, well try until I can!
