can you pick and choose which scores to send to colleges? like for example if my scores looked like this:

English- 26
Reading-25
Math-18
Science-21

and
English- 27
Math-17
Reading-26
Science-20

Could I pick to send English-27, Math-18, Reading-26, and Science-21? like you can with the sat?

You can send both reports to the college and they may do so, but it is not guaranteed. I would say that some colleges "superscore", but most do not.

sorry to bear the bad news.

No. They will all be sent and colleges will look at the highest scores although they tend to look at the highest composite.

donleyc,

You are thinking of the SAT. The SAT score report contains all of your admins, but the ACT scores you choose to send. So if you only want to send one, do so. If you want to send two or three, go ahead, but also know that schools do not typically cherry pick the scores from the ACT as they do for the SAT, since you dont have to submit ACT admins that didnt go your way.

Chris, You are correct about SAT scores sent. They don't "cherry pick" ACT like the SAT but it may be in student's interest to send both ACT scores - colleges are changing the way they are looking at the ACT. Our son took both, college received all SAT and SAT II scores and highest ACT. The college - EDII applicant - looked at the ACT - stronger scores - much higher -and I believe, disregarded average plus Sat's. Point being, a good idea to take both.

Definitely it is well recommended to take both SAT and ACT, but what I was saying is that you don't have to send all of your ACT scores. Colleges know this and assume that whatever you are sending is your best numbers.

For SAT, it all gets sent, period. For the ACT, you can choose which admins to send, but schools do not necessarily cherry pick the ACT scores.

I forgot - geez, our son is just finiishing his freshman year. How quickly one represses the admission process! He never sent in his SAT's, just his highest ACT. But the college counselor put his SAT's on the transcript. I told her that they were not being reported officially. She indicated it would not matter because the college only looks at official scores. I still believe it could have hurt him. Why stick somehting on a transcipt that you are not reporting through College Board. Watch for this with college counselors.
