You panic. You scream, though no one can hear. You think you might become ill.
Furthermore, only seconds pass before the static line, which is a rope attached to you and to the floor of the plane, becomes taut and yanks open your chute automatically.

D. Consequently, (Correct Answer)

38.
A. NO CHANGE
B. tragedy, Othello, (Correct Answer)
C. tragedy Othello,
D. tragedy Othello

I kinda get the first question, but I need a good explanation. However, I have no clue about the second question. Please help.

Othello is the name of the tragety...it is just like saying: My brother, John, has a friend named John.

The first must be a mistake. Furthermore does not quite fit because you are not really following it with something truly related in sequence to what went on before but are actually switching to an event that is different from the screaming and becoming ill, but the correct answer cannot be consequently. Consequently would be used if you are describing something that is caused by what is in the prior sentences but your screaming and becoming ill do not cause the chute to open. Of the choices given, however is the only one that sounds correct.

I made mistake the correct answers are:

B. However,

and

C. tragedy Othello,

sorry. Can you please explain these please? Namely, the first one.

I think I had these same questions when I took the ACT. Was it April 9? Anyway, B is correct in the first question because it signals a contrast. The information about screaming and becoming ill contransts sharply with the second sentence, in which the parachute opens, thereby reliving the circumstances that caused the screaming and what not.

C is correct for the second question because Shakespeare wrote more than one play. Using an appositive to enclose "Othello" would imply that Othello is "the" tragedy, rather than "a" tragedy, so you have to simply have one comma after it simply to clarify which play we're talking about (man, that was awkward). Hope that makes sense.

Thanks, I think I understand.
