Wow. I’m glad I read this. I was planning to have my DD prep of the ACT. We will just stick with the SAT. I don’t have the time or mental room for what they are putting you through. Good luck to all of you.
There is a way for me to get you my personal contact info. I will see if I can figure it out. What part of the country are you in? I do not have an atty. Too expensive. However I do have helpful information for you.
ACT does not review first time test takers. FYI
@ktrrights thank you for your updates and all your responses. I am just reading this an am in constant shock. I did read here or an article on someone who had a 34 and retook and got a 36 and was investigated. This all seems so scary. My question is (if you don’t mind) - I know that your child is in college and that you are doing this for the principal of the matter (which I applaud and think is the right thing to do), but why would the ACT seem to be going after so many seniors in the late spring after they have already sent in scores and been accepted to colleges? If this is the case and they don’t report cheating to colleges, then why does it matter for the seniors who are accepted in school and already sent in their tests. It would seem that they would just graduate and matriculate to the college they accepted too. Maybe I am missing something - like does ACT send letters to all the colleges that they are pulling the scores?? Sorry for the long winded question. Thank you
I do not know what they stand to gain by doing this. I have had several parents reach out to me with similar circumstances where scores were taken away 5+ months after the test and several where it was right upon graduation. From what I have read, the ACT does not notify schools of the scores being denied until after the appeal process. In some cases students chose arbitration and lost and when the schools were informed the students lost their scholarship. My daughter chose to go to the university close to home for her first year. She was accepted despite this situation. She will transfer to the larger university after and then on the Vet school. After the year is completed the ACT does not matter.
I recently found this article (Google this and it will come up) Cheater’s Proof - BYU Law Digital Commons
This is long but very interesting. I actually looked up the writer, Aron E. Goldschneider, found a phone # and left him a message. He is an attorney in Pennsylvania. Great man! He spent over almost an hour on the phone with me. What the ACT is doing is wrong and students do not stand a chance. They get away with this because of the legal coverage they have in their terms and conditions, but it is not right. I am fighting to clear my daughters name but I am also fighting on behalf of every student out their. I want to get this to Washington. The No Child Left Behind Act is intended for disadvantaged students. These seniors, are all at a disadvantage from the moment they take the ACT. If they don’t do well, study and get the help they need to take the test again, only to have the ACT accuse them of cheating. There needs to be more awareness of this problem. Students need to be treated fairly. They are guilty until proven innocent. The problem is ACT had all the power. That is why O am taking this to a much higher level. Hope this helps!
UPDATE TO ALL - We are in the middle of arbitration. All documents have to be submitted by the 30th. ACT objected to me being in person so I will have to send in my documentation. Win or lose this is not over!
Hello ktrrights, We live on Long Island. Whatever information you can provide would be helpful. My son’s score went up 6 points. From what I’ve read, it seems that if scores increase by 6 points or more within a 20 month period they are flagged. There are good reasons why his score jumped, but I’m afraid from reading these posts that it may not matter. I was very surprised about the student who got the 34 and then the 36. The difference is probably a handful of questions in each section.
It has not been an easy process but still worth the fight. Request copies of everything. Your sons test booklet/answer sheet, the other students test booklet/answer sheet. Review them. I found discrepancies on what we were sent. the seating chart. Talk directly to the proctor and get a direct statement from them. See if the room had cameras and if so review them. I will let you know how our progress goes.
SOOOO many people at my school cheated and got away with it
I have no doubt there are cheatera out there. It’s those people that we and many others are paying the price for!
ACTblunder2017 # GiveUsOurScores More injustice behavior by the ACT. Senior State ACT they have invalidated all senior grades due to they supposedly sent the wrong test! They claim we ordered the wrong test which our school administration says no way it was triple checked. Two TN schools effected Oct 2017.
We’ve been dealing with this ACT nightmare for months. One year after his test they contact him with the dreaded letter stating that his scores were invalid He sent in overwhelming proof to validate his score …the proof they had for cheating was his score increased too much by statistical standards !!!
No other proof on their end.
They rejected his letter of explanation to why and how his score improved. The evidence we provided was extremely solid and still they remained unmoved. So after already excepted into colleges and scholarship offers …he retook the test today. He was confident and said I did it once I do it again.
To be honest my concern was not in his ability but I don’t trust the system anymore. How do I know if they are giving him a fair test or will be honest about the score. My faith is strong and so in those moments I just have to trust that God is in control. This truly a David and goliath experience. I’m All in with helping with this fight. Contact me anytime.
Thank you for your letter. I am sending on my arbitration documents this week. It is an awful experience. Thank you for still being willing to support this. Good luck with this retake. Read back through these threads and you will find my ktr family email. I can’t figure out how to private message people on this site. I will keep you posted on this site but also through private email. Thanks again!
My son is one of the 413+ in TN that had scores invalidated. Right in time for college application and scholarship opportunities. They won’t tell us why they invalidated scores, they claim a “misadministration” but will not explain or show any proof. These tests were administered as a requirement for graduation in our state. We are fighting like crazy down here for justice. Keep us posted on any progress ktrrights. We may have a whole bunch of parents interested in arbitration.
I have included this in my arbitration packet. I have also contacted your mayor and governor. Don’t give up. Win or
lose this I will not stop until I get this to Washington. I need every parent and student possible. Stay strong and keep fighting!
Hello I am new to this but our son is now going through this situation. He has taken the Act 3 x the first two tests were not good low 20s. He never studied for the first two tests. Then we got advice of our college counselor and started the study process for the next test. He took an 8 week prep class, an act calculator specific class a speed reading course for an entire year and took the test in June of this year. His composite score increased 11 points! We were thrilled. In October we received the dreaded letter. Submitted all of the evidence of our rebuttal and today we received their reply. Cancel the test score, retake or arbitrate. Our son did not cheat! I work for an atty and feel certain the attorneys in my office will assist. Can you please provide more specifics about the arbitration process? We have to send the ACT our decision by, get this, Dec 26th. Nothing like destroying holidays. What should we consider for evidence of our rebuttal. We tried to talk to the proctor and the principal at our school where our son took the test said the teacher who proctors the test is not allowed to speak to us regarding this matter. Help please!
I hate to inform all of you that we LOST in arbitration. I am now waiting for answers to what the arbitrator reviewed and specifically what I submitted that they feel did not warrant giving our scores back. I still encourage everyone to fight this. I am now researching how to start a petition so I can get this to Washington. The only way to beat this horribly corrupt organization is to get as many people as possible to join in this fight.
Trust me we are devastated by this and to be honest it has taken me a few days to gather some dignity to inform you all of our results.
Anything I can do to help please feel free to contact me.
Wow. I stumbled upon this looking for what time ACT scores are coming out. My son took for the 4th time on the December test simply to increase an assigned scholarship. Now with this seemingly targeting of Seniors, no matter what the results, the whole situation scares me.
He will most likely get a letter in the mail if he improved his score by 5+ points. I wish you well and hope for the best for you and your son.
Hi everyone, I don’t know if I and all test OCT ACT takers in Vietnam are in your same situation or not. So far, all of us have not received our OCT ACT scores yet. On ACT webpage, there is a message that they are processing and the scores will be released from Nov 14 to Jan 2, 2018. We have waited for over one month, but no score released yet. I don’t know why. I am wondering two things: (1) if score will be released on Jan 2, 2018 how can we select and consider schools to apply, except ones in rolling and late RD (2) on ACT webpage, it states that the DEC ACT scores will be started releasing from Dec 19. Why don’t ACT.org complete scoring for OCT test before doing the DEC one?
Could you pls let me know why? Thank you.
