Does studying for the ACT go hand-in-hand with the PSAT? Will me studying this summer for the ACT in September also improve my skills and hopefully my score for the PSAT in Oct.?
Yeah, going to be very similar.
Two different philosophies.
You need to look at both tests. They look at the subjects differently.
Studying for the SAT is going to prepare you for the PSAT, and vice versa to a lesser degree, since the PSAT is much easier than the SAT. I can’t speak for the ACT, since they’re different tests.
@normanxi Can you tell me the format for the test? For example: time frames, subjects, etc.
For the PSAT?
The PSAT has 5 sections - 2 reading comprehension, 2 math, and 1 writing. The reading and math sections mirror the SAT reading and math sections pretty much exactly, except their questions are somewhat easier. the writing section is like a shortened, condensed version of the SAT’s larger writing section. it has sentence corrections, find-the-error type questions, and paragraph editing. it’s scored out of 240, and each raw score point corresponds to more final score points since there are fewer questions - you can only get like 1 question wrong overall to get a 240 on the PSAT, whereas you can 1 or 2 questions wrong in each subject on the SAT and still get a 2400. the test takes 2 hours and 45 minutes.
For knowledge, yes. For test technique and format, no.
I have read that the new PSAT this fall was supposed to ACT like. It’s not like the current SAT or old PSAT so if you are going to study for the new PSAT you are better off either studying for the ACT or finding info on the new PSAT. Do not studying for the current SAT to prep for the new PSAT.
