ACT vs. SAT with subject tests

Do colleges prefer the SAT just because you can include subject tests, or is there truly no difference?

Colleges almost universally accept ACT or SAT without preference for one over the other. The only exception I am aware of is California Polytechic San Luis Obispo, which is in a state where the SAT is the dominate test taken in its high schools. It prefers the ACT. The existence of, or any requirement for, subject tests makes no difference, In fact, a number of colleges that require subject tests if you submit SAT accept ACT in lieu of both SAT and subject tests.

what ive noticed on Naviance is that most colleges “prefer” the SAT over its ACT equivalent in terms of acceptances of equal GPA and equivalent score. I can only assume that this is because they really like the Subject tests. Any thoughts? Also Vandy seems to prefer the ACT, accepting all applicants with reasonable GPA and 35/36 ACT.

My opinion on the Naviance dilemma -
Students may do poorly on the SAT but we’ll on the act and only submit the act to college. Naviance doesn’t know that, so they report it as if the student sent all scores.

That’s my situation. I got a 1920 and a 33, so naviance will report me getting into schools with a 1920…

I’m talking most 36/35s getting rejected from everywhere, where lower SAT equivalents get in… so that can’t be the case. But, there’s definitely some sort of correlation between ACT and Midwest schools and SAT and coast schools. Someone should publish a paper lol. Maybe I should haha!
