Are ACT scores more favorable to colleges than SAT scores?

All colleges accept either ACT or SAT.

They get enough scores of both tests that they don’t care which scores you submit.

Look at colleges web sites to see what they accept.

Some say SAT scores lower than a college’s average can be frowned upon by that college because U.S. News & World Report doesn’t use the writing portion of the SAT.

Some say SAT scores lower than a college’s average can be frowned upon by that college because U.S. News & World Report doesn’t use the writing portion of the SAT.

The reasoning you’re using here is simply illogical. Colleges do not frown upon scores simply because of a number printed by the U.S. News & World Report. Students with SAT or ACT scores lower than a college’s average are obviously less likely to be admitted because they are below the average scores of admitted students.

ACT and SAT scores are considered equally. Send whichever is better. If both are great, send both - even if one is slightly better.

I called MIT and Cornell admissions and was told they take the highest scores on each test. I have found that many other colleges do the same thing.

I have a 1800 SAT score but I have a 33 ACT score.
Send in both or only ACT?
I want to apply to JHU, Cornell, Umich, Georgetown, Georgewashington, NE, NYU, Penn State and other safety/SUNY schools…
What are my chances?

3.7 UW Gpa

EC:
Volleyball team,
Loads of clubs
Internships
(I don’t need to worry about my EC’s :D)

Also, how do i choose who I should ask for to write a recommendation.

Soph/Junior Spanish teacher
i’m her favorite teacher, i treat her like a best friend, as she does to me
she is also a professor at a CUNY college

my neighbor
i shoveled her car out of the snow, she told me if i needed a recommendation for college, she will write me one. idk what she does though. i can ask. (i dont know her very well, she will probably BS alot and write great things about me hahaha)

a employee of a hostpital
my dad works for a lab company and he is very friendly to the hospital employees. i can ask him to ask one of the hospital doctors/nurse or w/e for a recommendation. they probably bs for me since my dad and the employee are great friends.

How many recommendations i need per school?
who should i ask whom would colleges like to see?

Your ACT is much better than your SAT. See this link: [ACT-SAT Concordance](The ACT Test for Students | ACT). Your ACT is also quite good. Unless you’re holding back something about your ACT score (e.g., “I got a 33 composite, but 25 on Reading.”), you should send ACT and be done with it.

Any other opinions please?!?! :/

also, do i need to take SATII’s? i can if i need to but i don’t really want to.

Your ACT is better than the SAT, don’t send the SAT.

Usually you don’t need SAT 2s with the ACT, but not always, so you need to check the website of each college you’re interested in.

About LORs, please take some time to read the college websites and the CA. You will see that you are required to have 2 Teacher LORs. After that you could send 1 supplemental from a non-teacher. That said, I would recommend AGAINST sending #4; LORs are about YOU, not the people sending them. #3 is more legitimate, but in all honesty, I would not recommend sending it to the level of schools you are applying to.

Again, read the college websites, they have all the information you need. There are very few universal requirements for college admissions. ‘Usually’ does not help you if one of your schools is an exception.

Also if i ED to a college, can i send in my ACT scores after i apply ED? i want to get higher than a 33.

I’m going to try one more time. This is not the place to ask generic questions about college requirements and deadlines. You should go to the primary source, the college website. Most websites will be very specific about the latest sitting they accept for ED applicants. If they don’t state it clearly, give the college a call.

Many people here are knowledgeable and helpful. But mistakes can be made and policies can change, the school is the only 100% reliable place to get this information.

Yes, but it has to be in Sep or Oct

Do not send your SAT if your ACT is higher. It just looks bad if the scores are very different (meaning: If you have 34 ACT, it’s odd to some colleges if you have 1800 SAT)
