My daughter took the Feb 2008 ACT w/ Writing and got a score of 8 on the Writing Essay. Her English score was 35 and her composite score was 35 too. She had taken the ACT w/Writing in 2006 as well and at that time had scored a 10 on the Writing Essay. The drop in the score seems unusual to me.

What is the likelihood that there was a mistake in the scoring of her essay this year? Is there any chance that they could have mixed up her essay with someone elses? Any other possibilities beyond that she just didn't write as well this time?

Should we ask for, and pay for, a rescoring of the Essay? Has anyone ever done that and got a higher score after that? Should she retake the ACT w/ Writing test?

Thanks, Tim S.
