ACT Writing Question(s)

My son took the ACT this morning...simply because he did much, much better on math than CR on the SAT (760/590) and we had heard that the ACT might be better for kids like him. (He also took the SATs again but we are waiting on that score.) But he took the ACT cold, with no prep, and ended up not getting to finish the fifth (conculsion) paragraph on his essay. Anyone know how much that matters on the ACT?

He also asked me why he even had to take the writing part of the ACT since he has his SAT writing score...and I didn't really know the answer to that other than I supposed that the school will either look at one test or the other?

I had a similar experience. I took the ACT today for the first time as well, and was also unable to completely finish the concluding paragraph of my essay. Due to the way in which the ACT is graded (holistically), the essay score should not suffer due to lack of completetion. If all of the points were clearly and coherently stated, he should be fine!

Also, while you do get a score out of 12 for the writing section and a combined English/Writing subscore, neither affects the composite score.
