Acting College Decision: CalArts vs AMDA vs UCI vs UCSB vs CSULB vs CSUF

@carriemc95 - I don’t know if @frontrowmama is still active on CC but we share stories on a facebook group and her S is very happy at CalArts. She says they expect the students to take their training seriously and they are very focused on educating the students to be professionals in the performing arts industry.

Thank you @CaMom13 !! I have not been on here in a long, long time! You summed it up very well! Yes, it is a serious program and the students are expected to give 100% or move on. There is no MT at CalArts, however, there are many kids with MT background. CalArts training is very industry/professional focused and is the classical training to be expected at any top training program. Performance is extremely avant-garde and I do speculate that this is how the program can be viewed as potentially “loose”. Honestly, at the parent panel on move-in day, we were clearly told this is a “school of bests” meaning these students across all the disciplines were the stars of their high school program and that this is the area where parents can expect struggle for their kids. It is a school of unique, incredibly talented artists. Feel free to message me for any other details!
