acting summer camps NYC

Hi, my son would like to apply for the YouthTheatreInstitutes summer program in New York City. Did anyone have the child in this program? Was it worth for college application? My son is freshman now, but he considers colleges with drama/ film making programs. We are not much in the field. Any thoughts will be much appreciated!

Sorry I don't know anything about that particular program but my son attended a five
week "Summer Teen Intensive" at Stella Adler in his sophomore HS year and the program
was quite good. Junior year he went to NHSI at Northwestern and that program was excellent and seemed to impress on the college audition circuit. Hope that helps.

Gena, although we did a quick look at most of the summer programs (online) I don't even remember that one, and hope someone replies who has been. I would urge you to add up all the costs of attending rather than simply compare program fees, though. Add in all the incidental expenses (some have a raft of additional fees) and the cost of transportation to an fro, then divide by the number of days to get a cost per day. Since some of the programs don't go a full week in the last week it can give you a better idea of the real cost when comparing. Good luck!

Forrest, I'm curious what they may have said to your son about the Northwestern summer program in his auditions. Our son decided to go to RADA for the summer but has since heard so much from other people about the Northwestern and CMU programs that he's wondering if he may have made---not really a mistake, because he is thrilled to be going, but a hasty decision in not really fully considering other programs. Did the auditors actually ask him about this summer experience at NHSI?

No one ever asked deep questions about NHSI, but more often than not someone
would comment "I see you were a Cherub" (that's the name given to attendees of the
program). I don't know at all how it compares to RADA or any other program regarding
the "impress" factor, but being a performer myself, I saw the raw talent in my son channeled through newly acquired technique and the result was astonishing. That said
it is not a program for those who are not completely committed. They work 7 days a week
an average of 12-14 hours a day, with a heavy emphasis on movement/physical training.
If you have any other questions, let me know.
