Acting/Tech double major?

Are there any good BFA programs that allow double majoring in Acting and Tech? I know Evansville has the Theatre Generalist major, but any other options? I expect BA programs would be more flexible about this, so if you know of any good BA programs that are condusive to such a double major I wouldn't mind hearing about that. Thanks!!!

Hi there, blaserk. I am a freshman at Ball State University, and you can double major in Theatrical Studies as well as Design/Tech. As a Theatrical Studies major, you can get a BA, and study many different aspects of theatre, and the Design/Tech major is a really great option as well! Check out Ball State at their website: [Ball State University - Theatre and Dance](http://cms.bsu.edu/Academics/CollegesandDepartments/TheatreDance.aspx).

I hope this is a good fit for you, and if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to message me! :D

The short answer is no, in most cases BFA conservatory programs do not offer double majors. These are professional programs with structured curricula. However, there are a few exceptions for the occasional oddball; my daughter was one too. Take a look:

[Theatre Arts (BFA) College of Fine Arts | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/cfa/theatre/prospective/undergraduate/theatre/)

[Directing, Playwriting & Production | The University of the Arts](Academics | University of the Arts)
This is a directing/playwriting/production degree with a minor in Musical Theater.

[The Theatre School :: Undergraduate Admissions :: Theatre Arts Application](http://theatreschool.depaul.edu/undergraduate_application_theatre_arts.php)
This one is mainly for directors but offers a sampling of everything in the department.

In other cases, a BFA program offers a BA in Theater Arts for those with more general interests. Here are a couple of examples.
[Theater Studies (B.A.) - Theatre Arts - School of Humanities and Sciences - Ithaca College](<a href=“School of Humanities and Sciences | Ithaca College”>School of Humanities and Sciences | Ithaca College)
[Theatre Studies (BA) | Emerson College](<a href=“Academic Departments, Emerson College”>Academic Departments, Emerson College)

If you find a program that interests you, make sure you will have access to both professional classes and main stage shows in both of your major areas.

I’m a sophomore at Fordham University (in NYC) pursuing a performance concentration. It is a BA program, but the amount of time and effort you put into the theatre department here, it definitely feels like a BFA sometimes!
A TON of my peers are interested in more than one “track,” so it’s definitely possible to build your resume in both Tech and Acting.

Hope your search goes well! Feel free to message me if you have any questions about our department!
