Hey! I’ve been on a few information sessions with colleges and it seems a lot of them are wanting students to show interest in what they’re studying. I want to study engineering and I’m afraid a lot of my activities don’t reflect that. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could pursue?
My D did science olympiad in HS, an attended STEM summer programs in robotics and engineering. The rest of her ECs were music and theater related and she had a regular old summer job at a sub shop. She did take engineering and CS electives during the school year which hopefully reinforced the interest to colleges.
Engineering can include different areas like civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, etc. Do you know what kind of engineering you’re interested in?

My S did robotics and STEM through 4-H. You might see if there’s a program in your county. He volunteered at the recycling center, where he learned to rebuild computers, and he attended different STEM/rocketry camps at the library and local university. There are coding classes online, e.g. Khan Academy.
