Activities section of common app?

I understand that you’re supposed to list the activities that are most important to you in the activities section. I’ve been a part of a couple clubs, a dance team, and some other volunteer stuff, but some of my hobbies are more important to me. I just kinda feel like they’ve shaped me more as a person that being in physics club, you know? I want to put that I’m dedicated to creative writing in my free time, I blog about fashion and social issues (cause those things totally go together), and I design t-shirts, but I’m worried that these might not seem like very legitimate activities. I want to be honest in what I’m passionate about without hurting my chances, but because there’s so little room given for description of the activities, I don’t know how effectively my passions can be conveyed. Any suggestions as to what I should do about this?

Your application is telling a story. Hopefully you essays, recommendations, and activities align at least somewhat, and possibly have some relationship to your proposed major. Your goal with your application is to make them want to bring you to campus. Your essay is one spot to use for giving more depth. The Additional Information section can be used to give more info – under a heading for the activity, you can concisely bullet key information. Do not add another essay in this section, but it is fine to provide key additional info in a consise format.
