Activities with History and Government

Does anyone know of any activities (Internships, programs, contests, etc.) that are history or government related, outside of school (highschool),other than NHD. Thank You!!

i dont know what you mean by outside of high school but you should look into jsa - it's absolutely AMAZING. it's an entirely student run organization and there are huge conventions with 1000+ kids attending all over the nation. snoop dogg was at our last one and stanley "tookie" williams called in from death row. there's also a summer school which is absolutely kick-butt.

Well the YPS (youth in political science) org based here in Canada deals with politics and humanitarian efforts for youth.

pm me if you want more info

hmm, tasp is a summer program, and the topics this year are related to both history and government, depending on which one you'd rather learn about. www.tellurideassociation.org

aGiantOreo, do you know Emily Rusca? She went to Yale summer school 2005 with me and i think she's like governor of JSA of the West Coast or something

i know emru! - i work with her out here. what's your name? i'll tell her you said hi.

J S A J S A ! ! !

Best thing I ever did.

The conventions are the best, really. I did Summer School at Stanford, but I had even more fun at the conventions. I was Director of Debate my senior year in SoCal.

GYLC (global young leaders program) is TONS of fun. It costs a lot of money but it's seriously amazing. One thing to remember is that you are kept moving constantly and you should be quite outgoing and comfortable speaking out and meeting new people. At mine there were 500+ students (delegates) from all over the world.. I met people from Zimbabwe, Trinidad and Tobego, Malaysia, Portugal, Australia, Curacao and of course places like NJ and Ohio :P But really, it's incredible. I gained so much confidence with public speaking (I was voted President of the Human Rights committee, and was one of 8 leaders of the Global Summit), I made such awesome friends, shopped like a madwoman, and lost 8 pounds over 12 days (most of it due to skipping lunch to shop like a madwoman hahah). Plus there are some really cute guys (and girls, if you're a guy) there!

If you're into writing research papers, you could try to get published by the Concord Review. They print exemplary history papers by HS students.

aGiantOreo, I don't think Emru knows who I am...I just remember seeing her give speeches and everyone was like "She's the boss of the director of the Summer School!" So she was definitely hailed as the queen of JSA :)

if youre a junior or younger, look into Princeton University's Humanities Symposium

You can do research in political science as I have done, Lots of interesting stuff there.

or.....you could possibly apply to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) next year...i am not sure what grade you are but I decided to mention it anyway... http://www.hearstfdn.org/ussyp/

Yeah, that program sounds amazing. Unfortunately, I only got alternate. Did anyone on CC get selected from their state?

bump............................
