As an activity on Common App, I put working 10-15 hours a week at friend's Dad's store (which is a franchise like a Subway). Now, I'm applying for some of the financial aid at some of these these colleges. The problem is, I work under the table. So I really can't put any "income tax" information on these forms. But this is in contradiction to my common app, where I said I had work experience at this local franchise 10-15 hours a week. Will colleges see this contradiction and view it as lying? Is there anything I can do? Or am I fine putting my income taxes at 0 and my savings as $1000 or whatever they may be? Let me know, I'm kind of confused and flustered considering I already applied a few places.

The colleges with which I am most familiar keep their admissions and finaid departments seperate so at those, at least, it would be a non-issue.

On the finaid app, if they’re asking for your projected 2010 income and tax figures, I’d advise reporting the income to the schools and planning on filing a tax return reporting the under the table income to the IRS and paying tax on it. Your tax liability will probably be next to nothing.

Good luck.

So fin aid and admissions departments are usually separate?

Idk still confused about this.

Yes, they are separate offices at colleges but they work very closely together with respect to admissions offers.
