ACT's for highly selective schools

Is there a preference among top schools between the ACT/SAT?

Is a 32 composite (32science 32reading 32english 33math essay9) low for highly competitive schools?

I’ve noticed that the UC’s have much lower ACT ranges than SAT…does this mean anything in terms of preference?

No, you still might have to take SATII's. It really depends on how the college use the test. There aren't that many schools that are 'SAT' or 'ACT' only.

No, a 32 is good score, considering the nasty curve the ACT has. It is approximately a 1400 on the old 1600 scale.

Don't know too much about the UC system.

anyone else?? bummmpppp

The schools that I know that put SAT over ACT is wake forest(doesn't accept ACTs) and Princeton, which wants SATs instead of ACTs.

anyone know about UC's?!!?

Princeton accepts the ACT, however they still require SATII's.

32 is a good score check out Northwestern's data:

Class of 2008: Distribution of ACT composite results
Applied Admitted Percent Admitted Enrolled
35-36 158 105 66.5 21
33-34 655 327 49.9 124
31-32 908 315 34.7 168
29-30 902 208 23.1 122
27-28 636 91 14.3 62
25-26 379 54 14.3 34
23-24 225 30 13.3 18
21-22 131 10 7.6 9
Under 20 105 5 4.8 5

sr6622, do you know where you can find similar data like that of Northwesterns for other colleges?

sorry Pentasa, I really don't know of any others with such detailed information, just the 25th-75th percentile stuff.

The UC's have a conversion table from ACT to SAT score, so they have no preference for one over the other. A 32 ACT is equal to a 1420 SAT.

ok thanks all
