Im using the Red book to prepare. What is considered a good ACT score?

for what?
harvard?
it depends on what colleges you are looking at.

AVERAGE ACT score in the nation is a 21.

It depends on which college(s) you’re applying to. For most decent to good colleges, a 28-30 will be enough. If you’re applying to the ivies or comparable school, a 32-36 would be ideal.

the average ACT scores at Yale range from 31-34, if that helps you.

just remember an overall average range, for example at yale of 31-34 includes all types of applicants, legacy, athletically talented etc. If you are just a regular person with no niche, you can figure a 35-36 average range at schools like stanford, yale etc… and even that is often not good enough for a great chance at a lot of schools where they get so many applications with high scores. good luck
just my opinion…

i agree - would rather be a 31 from an underrepresented group or have legacy, than a 36 without it. no doubt about that. from what I hear, legacy is good for at least 5 points ACT or a few hundred points SAT at Stanford. and it’s probably always gonna be like that. just the way it is guys at the old boys club
