additional essay

I can't think of anything better... so I'm going to use one of their suggestions and make a list of books I have read in the last 12 months...

Is that all it is... a list??? Or am I supposed to write a little bit about what I liked about/learned from each book???

anyone???... I would like to send in my app tomorrow

Dude, they would learn nothing about u from a list of books uve read. I bet 99% kids applying there have read the same book as u because of AP Lit classes that require the same books. If u send in a list, that wouldnt help at all. U definitely have to write stuff..

well... I read a lot of popular fiction, too (really like Tom Clancy/John Grisham books)...

But, I guess you're right - I should find a different topic... but I've covered everything somewhere in my application

i feel the same tapedduck, i feel i pretty much covered everything i needed with my activities and common app essay so i felt like the 'optional' one would just be redundant. but of course i end up feeling like i should do it since the overachievers here say optional really isn't optional.

I feel like a list of books would be rather easy to er...embellish. Does Harvard care?

Would it hurt to submit two essays??? There is a travel experience I could mention, but I don't have a whole lot to write about and expand on.

I could add that on with my list of books (I actually made the list and was surprised to see that I read 19 books in the last year - I never actually thought I read a whole lot).

Read for AP English/World Literature class:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Shakespeare
The Merchant of Venice – Shakespeare
Julius Caesar – Shakespeare
A Raisin in the Sun – Lorraine Hansberry
As I Lay Dying – William Faulkner
The Things They Carried – Tim O’Brien
Sula – Tony Morrison
The Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck
Things Fall Apart – Chinua Achebe
Guns, Germs, and Steel – Jared Diamond (AP Geo book report)

Read on my own time:
Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte
Frankenstein – Mary Shelley
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde – Robert Louis Stevenson
Debt of Honor – Tom Clancy
Executive Orders – Tom Clancy
Red Rabbit – Tom Clancy
The Broker – John Grisham
The Innocent Man – John Grisham

Should I just submit that or write a little more?

I think that a book list wouldn't help your app at all. But if you are to use the book list, for Sula, it's Toni Morrison, not Tony.
