"Additional Info" sections of applications-a pretty stupid question...

^ Just make sure it doesn’t sound like you’re blaming the situations for your performance, even if it’s legitimately somewhat true. Brief mentions might be okay, as long as they don’t become excuses.

I have a few questions:

Q1: So I was advised on here to explain that I wasn’t able to be involved in anything in 9th and 10th grade due to having to take care of the house and my brother from the time I got home until 1 a.m. on the additional info section. Do I just come right out and say that or what? So when explaining my situation, how do I explain that. Do I just start off with, “I wasn’t able to be involved much b/c of family responsibilities blah blah blah” or what, that seems too forward and like I’m making excuses.

Q2: In terms of letting a school know they are your top choice (I am applying ED), can I also mention either in the add. info section or my supplement for the school that I’d be ecstatic even with an offer of a guaranteed transfer? I think that might sound somewhat desperate…

if you are applying ED, is it necessary to indicate that it is your number 1 school? lol…

^lol I know. But I just want to them to know that I really, really want to go there. So much that I’d be happy even with a GT.

oh no, haha…that was a real question, i wasn’t like mocking you or anything…i just hope we don’t come off desperate if we do decide to say something like that…lol

^Haha, my bad. Sometimes you just can’t tell with the internet! What’s your first choice?

Upenn…but im seriously doubting my chances of admission given my seriously lacking SAT scores =(… you?

Cornell and same, my ACT sucks; it’s the very bottom of the pool like the bottom of the middle 50% of scores you know. Hopefully ED will help us! =)

Shouldn’t circumstances such as death or having to take care of parents/siblings better left to the counselors?

Also, since the additional info section lets you attach documents, could you (and should you) write another essay? What about attaching a word doc with pictures of your artwork?

Several questions

Is elaboration on a few academic honors or extra-curricular activities generally acceptable or frowned upon?

Is it preferable to upload a (text) document containing this information or just use the available text box?

If I use the text box, how should I divide or format the information? (I have to list college classes I have taken, for example, but I also need to elaborate on an academic honor and a few other, relatively minor things.)

At this point I think I may be bordering on paranoia, but some clarification would be great. :)
