<p>I think you can attach whatever additional info you want to include in this section. I would keep it short though.</p>

<p>Just make sure “explanation of poor grades” doesn’t translate to “sob story”. Colleges want students who can excel in even the most adverse situations so don’t use moving or a family divorce as a crutch for 2.5 GPA.</p>

However, if there was an unusual circumstance (family, illness, transition after moving, etc) that might have prevented you from doing your best in school, perhaps you can consider asking your guidance counselor to explain the poor grades briefly in his or her recommendation instead of doing so yourself? That may also work.</p>
