So... I really loved the extra essay i wrote for the additional info part of the MIT app.

It doesn't say what the word limit is. But when I pasted in my essay and clicked save, it said its length was too much. But if I clicked to ignore the error and preview, my essay fits snugly on the page and isn't cut off in any way.

What is the word limit? If it fits in the preview, doesn't that mean it fits on the application?

I REAAALLYYY don't want to redo it. I've cut it down from 5 pages to two already, and cutting it down any more would be like the massacre in the cabin in the woods.

just ugly.

;D

I have no idea whether they will cut off your essay at the max word count. But it sounds like they would at least note that it is over.

But why go over? A limit is established and the app is even telling you that you blew it. IMHO, if you can’t even follow simple directions like a word limit, then what else can’t you understand. I would tend to think (but then again, I don’t know really) that it places a black mark on your application if you go over. I would definitely reduce the word count to meet the max.

Your choice, your app.

they didn’t detail a word limit. it’s literally juts an open box with the prompt. MIT admin say that as long as it fits the page it’s fine, which mine does. especially because they don’t actually have a word limit, I have no idea what to do.
