i know you can send in additional recs, but how do you go about this process? do you have your additional person fill out an extra teacher form...bu tif they're not a teacher thats just misleading. or do they just send their recommndation directly to the college? if any of you know..ur help would be great!

I think they can just talk about you in a letter. That's what I am having my additional recommender doing.

Yes just a recommending letter I would assume but make sure that you mark the envelope- carrying this recommendation- "Supplementary Recommendation"

Yale strongly discourages supplementary letters, I believe.

Rence, can you give the sources of where you've heard that?

kyzan-on their website, yale says:
"We strongly discourage students from submitting more than the two required letters from teachers and the letter from a guidance counselor or college advisor that accompanies the School Report Form. Additional letters can have the effect of cluttering an application file, often repeating what has been said elsewhere, and can leave a reader wondering which letters are the most important recommendations. Three, four, or even five letters from teachers rarely do more work for a candidate than two.

That said, we try to be flexible about the need, in isolated cases, for students to submit an additional letter. If you feel there really is a need to send an extra recommendation, one that will add substantially to your application, be sure it is labeled "supplementary" to avoid confusion."

Here's the link if you want it: http://www.yale.edu/admit/faq/applying.html#8

Ah ok, thanks a lot. Now I am not sure if I am sending a supplement.

hmm...anybody have any opinions or experience regarding dr's comments? i certainly am not an exceptional case but I'm confident each letter would reflect a different side of my character.

My opinion is that ONE additional letter of rec is the least objectionable supplemental material you can send in IF it TRULY is different from your academic recs AND your activity list. For instance, a music teacher who says you're great is superfluous if you activity list shows amazing music awards. Yale may have stronger language about supplemental recs this year because they are expecting so many early apps and supplemental info just slows them down.

Just send? If they don't want it, they'll just chuck it away.. So why not?

Because they'll think, omg why doesn't this kid follow directions, i hate this kid already.
