Has anyone heard any updates about Ole Miss First or Foundation Scholarships for Out Of State students?
I don’t think any of them have been awarded yet.
My son was at Ole Miss this week visiting with Lott Leadership. He asked about the additional scholarships and they said they were scheduled to be awarded by the first week in April. He didn’t ask much else, but when I looked at this Portal today, the 2018-19 Awards are offline until April 3.
Do band scholarships get announced next week too? Has anyone received a band scholarship already?
Just checked portal - “down for maintenance”
My D received a letter in the mail this afternoon that she was accepted to the marching band. She was awarded a $3400 per year scholarship. She has to participate in one of the band programs for the spring semester too. I have no idea what that entails. She is not a music major and auditioned last Saturday.
Congrats! My D auditioned last Saturday too so maybe Monday’s mail will have some news. Which instrument does you D play? How much time is required for a non major or minor?
Thanks! I have was shocked on the amount of the scholarship. I think she received the scholarship because she is a female tuba player! I did a little research on the band site last night, and found that she would take a 1 credit class in the spring. The class in the spring would be for the winds band, symphonic, concert or university band. I’m not sure what the university band means. I guess it’s a way to keep the students playing their instruments. I’m going to have my D call the band department next week to answer some questions. With the acceptance letter came a letter of intent for her to sign. She has to commit to the Ole Miss band, and is not allowed to take any other band scholarship from other schools (not that she auditioned anywhere else). This process has been stressful, but she is lucky because that everything at Ole Miss has worked out. She committed to Ole Miss a few weeks ago with only the non competitive scholarships that were awarded back in December, so our in-state options would have been cheaper, but she loved Ole Miss when she visited last summer. In the last two weeks, she was awarded an accounting and the band scholarships to make Ole Miss affordable.
Congrats to your daughter @FLMom70! Hoping to hear about the rest soon!
That is wonderful that everything seems to be working out for Ole Miss since she committed to go there. Hopefully this week will continue her scholarship streak! Best of luck as more decisions are released soon.
@FLMom70 DS auditioned in February and also received a scholarship! The amount was surprising to us as well and very exciting. He plays alto sax. That on top of the academic, Eagle Scout and CME scholarships made Ole Miss better than in state for us.
@TexasMom18 Congrats to your DS. You must be close toCOA. The CME scholarship is a biggy!
Is your DS only doing marching band? Is he minoring/double major in music? If he is doing marching band, have you received any details about the band for spring term or when students need to go to campus in August?
@FLMom70 There are apparently different levels of CME scholarships. He didn’t get the big one but we will take all we can get. We are getting close to full tuition but not there yet.
He is not a music minor - he’s doing chemical engineering. He will also do marching and concert in the spring. They have received his signed letter of intent because the scholarship is now in my.olemiss as of last Thursday. I’m hoping that means more info will be coming.
My daughter received a scholarship letter today. We are very pleased with the amount considering she is not majoring or minoring in music. The Director indicated that there would not be conflicts between band camp this summer and the honors college activities since they move in early. Did anyone else get additional money for private lessons? Apparently, this is a class too.
@ILMom2000 Congrats!!! That’s awesome that she got extra money for lessons. My D didn’t get any $ for lessons. What instrument does she play?
My daughter plays the oboe, but will be playing percussion in the marching band. Maybe they want to keep her playing oboe during the fall in preparation for spring ensembles.
@ILMom2000 MY DD23 plays oboe. I wondered how they would handle that when/if she decides to continue in college.
I noticed that the award notification for 2018-2019 is offline while aid packages are finalized. crosses fingers
YEP! Fingers crossed here too. We have full tuition but still have to worry about room and board. Every little bit will help, but at least DS is committed to Ole Miss now!!
Anyone happen to know if they accept weighted GPA for the additional scholarships (Holmes, Non-Resident STEM)
DS got an email that his financial aid package is ready but the system is still offline. :((
