Just a few minutes ago, I had a phone call from one of the admissions officers from Cornell University.

She said that the business of the phone call was to ask whether or not I would be interested in the College of Engineering. I said that "my primary choice was CAS and my alternate was CALS. How can I apply to 3 different colleges?"

She mentioned that this was an additional option, and that if i were interested, I had to reply to her email with a prospective choice of major to the College of Engineering.

I am going to reply.

But i was wondering if anyone else had a similar phone call of email? (if you did not apply to the college of engineering)

I did not receive such and email or phone call...Furthermore, I did not believe it was possible to apply to more than one college. Only a Primary and Alternate Choice. Be very careful who you're sending your information to. I would call up Cornell and see what additional info they themselves can give you first.

Hm....so are you effectively changing your college choice, or are you just adding in a 3rd option. Idk, anyone else have any opinions. I've never heard of this happening before. I'm still new here though lol XD

I think this may be indicative of a few things (all speculation of course, but whatever):

They may want to accept you but may not have room in the colleges you've applied to, so they'd like to give you a chance at a different school (likely).

They think your talents would be best suited for CoE because, perhaps, the the college of agricultural science would be too "low" for you, but they don't have room in CAS (also likely)

They would like place you in the RD pool for CoE (not so likely).

If they wanted to do #3, they wouldn't waited 'till you were deferred ED.

So, basically, I'd say you're probably being smiled upon favorably by the Cornell Admission Gods. They wouldn't go through that much trouble for an applicant that they're likely to reject.

CALS is amazing at a ton of things and so is CoE... if you're not interested in Engineering and you're interested in Bio/Atmospheric Science/Food Science/etc, then CALS is way better than CoE.
Saying CALS is worse is like saying Williams is worse than Penn. You just can't compare them.
