Is it okay to use subheading in/on a college application essay?

Agree. Plus the essay itself isn’t that long so I don’t think it should require subheadings.

You absolutely can. When it comes to college admissions essays, there are no hard and fast rules with one exception; never try to explain away bad grades in your essay. It never works. - Admissions Track

It’s not an ordinary essay for high school, nor meant to be expository. What do you think subheadings will add? Can you just tell your tale without this extra stylistic element? After all…

I think it will use up unnecessary words and will break up your essay, making it choppy. You should be able to transition between paragraphs without subheadings.
