Addressing college admissions reps

So... I'm sending an email to a college admissions rep about something specific related to my application...

Is it okay to address them by their first name if they're young and I've talked to them extensively in person before? Or should I just stick to the standard Mr./Ms.? I dunno, the latter sounds really awkward, but the former seems presumptive.

Please help! Thanks!

P.S. If anyone's curious, the rep is Chris Davey of UChicago.

I think if this specific thing is very serious (they might have to pull strings or something along those lines…) then you should use Mr./Mrs. Saying “Hi Chris” is probably OK for little things. Also, you’ve met him before so its not TOO strange to address him like that. Just make sure you announce who you are so they don’t read through the whole thing like “Who the hell is this?” That’s my $.02, but I’m young so what do I know…

IMO, I think you should say “Mr. Davey,” and then if signs off his reply as just “Chris,” then you’re fine to call him that in any future emails. If he responds with his full name or Mr. Davey, keep using “Mr. Davey.”

I was going to ask him to check on my rec letters (issue with one of them) and maybe explain that issue in a later email if I need to.
