Adelphi, Hofstra, and LIU-Post Dance Programs

Hi. Does anyone have any experience, feedback, or information of these three Long Island dance programs? Not a lot of information on the board about these 3.

My daughter just auditioned at Adelphi today. She’s still sifting through her impressions, but the quality of the dancers and the classes seems to be very good. It’s a relatively small department (60-70 undergrads) and class sizes are small. There is a strong focus on developing dance technique. Lots of students double-major. Small full-time faculty—3 professors.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I look forward to hearing more experiences like yours.

I think that @milgymfam 's dd is considering LIU-Post?

A few other things from my dd’s Adelphi audition/visit yesterday:

Adelphi does its auditions differently from other schools we have been to. They do not have audition days per se–you make an appointment for your audition and take class with their students and then show a solo.

One thing that seemed strange was that they had them take the most advanced level class in both ballet and modern. Our impression was that this was in order to sell the program by showing off the skill level of their most advanced dancers. But my dd found that the class was difficult enough that she was just trying to keep up, and couldn’t really watch the other dancers OR dance her best OR even evaluate if she actually liked the class.

My dd mentioned that all the dancers (in the advanced classes at least) were very skinny and flexible. This gave her pause as she is not.

It sounds like a program that will help you tailor the curriculum somewhat to your personal interests.

Garden City is a cute looking town and it seems like a great set-up to be in a suburban setting in which it’s really easy to get into NYC.

Probably won’t be a top choice for my dd, but it seems like a strong program.

@threegirlpileup nope, sorry. She neither applied nor auditioned there. I’ll be starting a post in a few weeks to try and whittle down her top choices (most of which are rarely discussed here).

@milgymfam ooops ?
So many schools, it’s hard to keep track!!
Looking forward to hearing an update on your dd’s journey.
