Adelphi University or Syracuse University Setnor School of Music for Music Education?

Hello! I recently got accepted to both of these lovely schools with significant scholarships for music education, I am currently leaning towards one because I’m more familiar with it and I know a lot of kids from my current HS go there , but I didnt want my judgement to be biased because of that.

If anyone can give me opinions on both/either school and compare their programs I would very much appreciate it!

I really can’t speak for the programs but my son was in youth orchestra directed by SU’s director of orchestra department. He is absolutely fabulous with young adults!!! I can’t speak highly enough of that gentleman.

I’m not familiar with either program. I’d recommend that you speak with your high school music teachers and ask which they would recommend. If possible, ask them for their “off the record thoughts”. Son was warned against attending a certain school because their graduates had a reputation for being unprepared. (Not either of the ones you are asking about.) Also, check with each school about placement rates for their graduates in full time tenure track positions at public schools. A strong alumni network can help you find that first teaching job because the alumni can alert you to potential openings as well as provide strong recommendations for you.
