My son is a junior at a Vermont high school, and has ADHD-inattentive type. He'll need help to stay organized and with a variety of other things in college.

He'll probably be aiming for civil or mechanical engineering, which I know will be demanding and time-consuming.

I saw that Fiske put UVM on a list of large universities that do a good job providing services for kids with ADHD.

I'd like to find out more about what services are provided. Are there any students at UVM who have ADHD or an LD and have used UVM's services? What does the school provide, and have you found it helpful?

Would a kid with ADHD coming from a small Vermont high school get lost at a school the size of UVM, or is there enough support there?

I would suggest you call the ACCESS office at UVM. They recently reached out to us concerning our son, who will be attending this coming fall. I know of a girl that was given huge amounts of assistance a few years ago, and it made a huge difference for her.

I too have ADHD and was looking at UVM. From other online sources (not sure of the accuracy) I read that the professors are more lenient to those with ADHD. I would also suggest your son talk to a doctor and get a prescription drug to reduce his hyperactivity. I did and it helped a lot. If you can’t afford the prescription I suggest your son take caffeine pills. It supposedly has the opposite affect on those with ADHD. I have never tried this method. I don’t know if you have tried these, but this may help.

Thanks for the advice. My son has been on stimulants since 2nd grade.

Wish I knew more about what really goes on there, rather than what is published.
