Admission Decisions Class of 2023

Nothing here again in SC. This is getting ridiculous

@APDNJ before that, her portal was just the checklist showing everything was submitted. When she logged on Monday night (it was after 7pm) it said “Congratulations” at the top instead of showing the checklist. It showed her name, College of Arts & Sciences, and her major (Cardiovascular Technology). Someone asked for status of accepted students. My daughter is In-State, 3.9 GPA, 1190 SAT, 25 ACT but she kept in contact with the Assoc Dean who created the program and her essay, I was told by her guidance dept, was one of the best they’ve ever seen so I think that helped her immensely!

Nothing in MA, process is comical at this point.

For clarification if timing you applied made a difference:

Application Date: August 9 and did a campus visit right after.

Stats: 30 ACT (33 Super score) and 3.4 GPA (His dad passed away his freshman year so grades were impacted a few semesters) but all AP/Honors that are offered by our school

Was told it mailed Monday of last week. Still nothing.

Thanks for the update pama. It’s interesting that the school blames the USPS and weather. While it’s true that the mail is in the hands of the USPS, there are several things USC could have done to take responsibility and better manage this process. 1. Send all decisions on the same day. 2. Email candidates with a notification of when the the portal will update, 3. Coordinate mailing Schedule by College within the unversity, 4. Update portal ahead of letter for everyone. and the list goes on. The college acceptance process was 1000 times better at the other schools we applied to and thankfully we have very good schools to choose from since SC doesn’t seem to be working out. If we get in at this point, the thrill and excitement is gone and not sure we would hang around if deferred.

Good luck to everyone who already received decisions and those who are still waiting!

For those who’s portals updated
around what time did they update?

I have read after 7pm and 4 to 5 days after admissions said the letter had been mailed

What does it say if you received a deferred letter?

I emailed our rep for NJ explaining that we have called their office and we were told the mailings went out last week. That other kids in our HS had received their letters. We are headed for vacation and stopping our mail. Ours has still not shown up. She told my son to call her. He did. He was told his application needed further review. Never did she use the word Deferred. She didn’t say when he would hear. Does anyone know what this means? and of course we have no letter to refer to

@sammomof2 It means deferred. As I’m sure most of us still waiting on the letter are going to find out. My son was deferred from another school, but they didn’t use the actual word - they used the phrase, “needs further review” and the letter instructed him to submit his first semester grades when he gets them - and the checklist on his portal (not USC) updated to show S1 grades as missing. As I told my son for the other school - it’s great motivation to do well first semester, that’s all they’re really looking for - 1st semester grades, otherwise it would be a denial/rejection. Not as good obviously as an acceptance but if your son does well first semester, he’ll probably be accepted by February!

timing pf application definitely did not make difference. my daughter applied last possible day and heard back over a month ago. i am guessing if you are being invited to apply for the honors college and are being considered for the top scholarships - you hear first (both were mentioned in my daughters acceptance).

@themcgees my ds was invited to apply for honors college as well, decided against it, but got multiple calls/emails to do so. And we haven’t heard so i’m not sure that is the case either.

There are also a number of VERY high stat kids with no answers.

@sammomof2 I called to ask about my letter and was told that a second review is basically a deferral. They said I wouldn’t be hearing yes or no until March of next year and the only additional information they’ll take into consideration the second time around are new test scores.So basically they are just looking at the same application again.

Found this link on the website

Do you mind me asking what your kids stats are? @sammomof2 & @jt2023

So basically it means once students start declining acceptances they will look to replace them with deferred?

@christinatoto 1200-SAT 3.8 gpa

@christinatoto 1300 SAT - 3.6 gpa

@tc1214 no i think now my application is just in with the students who didn’t apply EA

@tc1214 - are you sure all required elements got their in time for EA?? if anything is late, your out of running for EA

Did anyone get a portal update tonight?
