@3collegekidz 100% agree. There are many factors that drive the selection process. An example is my Daughter was accepted at a University as a Biology Major and received a scholarship from that department, she changed her major to engineering and probably won’t receive a scholarship from that University’s COE department as an incoming Freshman. So yes depending on what major has a lot to do with the process.
And for those wondering, after the major change was official my daughter went in to her portal and declined the biology scholarship early so another student could benefit from that scholarship. Also, this wasn’t from USC.
im confused. isn’t second review and deferred the same thing?
@kareb1022 yes
So has anyone else received their deferment letter yet that was mailed out Dec 11th. Still havent gotten mine :))
Yes. My daughter received her deferment letter yesterday.
? Happy New Year
A friend of mine spoke with an Admissions Officer at another public university that explained the selection process to her like this. She said from an applicant/parent’s perspective, it may appear that there is no rhyme or reason as to who was accepted. But to the Admissions staff, it’s a very deliberate process. They look at a class in its entirety, as a world puzzle, and they accept each applicant to fill in a piece of the puzzle. The kids representing pieces in the upper right quadrant may have an entirely different profile than the kids representing the lower left quadrant of the puzzle, but together they form a complete picture. This AO indicated that they try to create a class that reflects society at large, as best as they can, to complete the puzzle. If all the pieces in the upper right are filled, then someone with similar stats can get passed over while someone with lower stats and a different profile can get accepted. She indicated they didn’t want a cookie cutter class where everyone looks the same.
Woohoo got the “second review” letter in the mail today (in CA). It was dated December 10th! Three weeks to reach us…wow.
I hope 2019 brings great joy to everyone, especially to the ones who have worked hard to get to the point where they are at now! Good luck to everyone!
We finally got our “second review” letter
I received mine on Nov. 19 by mail. Submitted application on Oct 20th for EA since the deadline was extended to the 21st. Accepted! Very excited.

I received a letter shortly before I got my acceptance letter that made it sound like I needed to prepare for the Capstone program.
Does anyone know if the University of South Carolina requires mid-year reports? Can’t find any info about it on their website.

Ever since the debacle of late notices for deferral, there has been very little activity on this thread. I suspect it is because no decisions have been sent recently. It would be great to know if the timeline for those under second review will really push all the way to March 11th. That is a long time to wait while many other Universities are providing admission decisions this month. Has anyone heard from Admissions or those waiting if they will be releasing decisions in waves over the next 30/60/90 days?
In the past they have started sending acceptances out in batches all the way through the mid-March date, so I would guess yes.
DS heard on Dec 10th

W GPA 4.19 UW GPA 3.89

@scmom12 Ok, CC family…We just spoke to admissions to ask if waves of acceptances are coming out between now and the 2nd Review Decision Date of March 11th. Unfortunately the answer was… “QUOTE…Only Honors College applicants will receive decisions between now and Mid-February.” NO applicants in the 2nd review pool will receive an admission decision prior to the last week of February through March 11th.
If you go back to last year on the twitter feed, USC tweeted on Feb 17 about releasing decisions a “little” early so you never know… I guess that is mid February. Good luck to everyone waiting.
