I have a friend from high school who entered the program to get your concurrent teaching credential, Hutchins, as a freshman. My roommate is also trying to enter Hutchins in her junior year. I am currently the treasuer of the SCTA (Student California Teacher’s Assication) and many of our members are in it too.
My friend LOVES it! She has made many close friends through the program. It does require a lot of outside reading with discussion in class. They expect you to have read before hand and you will fail the program if you don’t. However, there are no tests and most of your general education credits are covered by the classes in the program. I believe you only have to take sciences in the general education pattern ( not 100% sure). It is a wonderful program for those who are 100% teaching is for them. You get your degree and teaching credentials in four years, so you are saving yourself from the expense of a 5th year in college. The classes are very small and there is more group work than other classes.
If you are really driven to be a teacher, this is a wonderful program!

No new admissions decisions for anyone?

Dd is still waiting. She turned in her application on 11/10, so I’d estimate the earliest she’ll hear back is the last week of January. SSU is her 1st choice and she will attend if admitted. I’ll be sure to post when she finds out :).

The CSU students just started second semester today. I imagine the admin staff was off for the 5-week break as well.

Just a note, we started school last week. =)

Interesting…I thought all CSU’s were on the same calendar. Does SSU give a shorter winter break or do you start earlier in August?

I’m not sure how our calender compares to other CSUs. We began Fall 2012 on Aug 21 and ended Dec 14th. Spring 2013 goes from Jan 14 to May 10th.

That’s a week earlier.

I hope no one minds me jumping in…I’m a recent SSU grad (I just graduated this past May) and I know they just readjusted the schedule last year. They cut winter break almost in half due to budget issues. So now our schedule is just a little different from some of the other CSUs.

Anywho. I absolutely adored my time at Sonoma and if anyone has questions feel free to ask! (I don’t check CC much lately because I’m in grad school and don’t have a ton of free time, but if you PM me I’m happy to give you my e-mail address!)

Best of luck to everyone applying!

Thanks for the endorsement for your school. Still waiting for an application decision.

When choosing schools, which ones did you consider, and what drew you to sonoma state?

@ Crizello, are you still waiting to hear back from Sonoma? Just curious, when was your application sent in, are you in their priority enrollment area, or is your major impacted? My daughter, who is still waiting to hear back from Sonoma, sent her application in on 11/10/12, we live in California (San Mateo County), but out of the priority area, and her major is not impacted.

MLM: D checked today, no change in status. We are out of their area (Sacramento) and I don’t think her major is impacted (chemistry). She did apply about the same time, mid-Nov

Seems like they are going to wait until March for rest of decisions

Crizello, I hope both of our kids hear from SSU soon!

crizello–I applied to Sonoma, SF State and CSU Long Beach. I wanted to go to a smaller school and as soon as I set foot on the campus I just knew it was for me. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, the staff are all incredibly friendly and care about the students, and all the students are really friendly too. It just “felt” right.

By the way, found out Friday that all acceptances are expected to be released by March 15.

^ Wonderful news! Thanks for the info, Crizello!

My daughter was accepted on February 5th. She is an incoming Freshman.
GPA - 3.4
ACT - 29

Applied as a Business Major.

Bclincoln: are you in Sonoma geographic area?

No word for rest of us yet, it seems

I am Bclincoln’s daughter, and we live in the SF Bay Area. I applied to Sonoma on 11/27, and I got both an email and a letter in the mail saying Congratulations on February 5th.

By the way, congrats Jlinkk!
