I was just wondering what kind of influence do the coaches at chicago have in the admission decisions? Any athletes who have been admitted that would like to share their gpa, sat, etc.

have you already contacted the coach at chicago?

Yeah. He's called me a couple of times talking about the university of chicago and sent me some things.

Chicago doesn't recruit for sports. Hence our Div. 3 status...

Division 3 recruits...

they still recruit for sports. perhaps they can't award athletic scholarships, but believe me, they do recruit!

We do recruit. If you have had extensive contact with a coach and they want you on their team, they will write you a "green sheet" that goes into your application file. We don't have academic scholarships and we don't hold places for athletes, but coaches are very active in the recruitment process for us.

did you mean athletic scholarships?

Right, sorry.

Coaches are going to hold some amount of sway. You will still have to be a good applicant but if a coach is actively seeking you out, it will most likely be a big boost to your application.

Do coaches normally only seek the top tier athletes? (nationally, internationally ranked) Or do they look for 2nd and 3rd tier athletes as well? (Regional, State)

Generally, coaches will also seek 2nd and 3rd tier athletes, as top tier athletes are hard to come by, especially one with academics to match UChicago. Also, top tier athletes would want to go to D1 schools where they could get a great scholarship.
