admission help

So, I have a pretty low gpa, around 3.0 - 3.3(out of 4.0), and I was wondering if I have a chance of getting in. I am captain of my schools varsity football team, captain of the varsity lacrosse team, I participate in my schools production(designing sets and woodworking to make the sets), and I have volunteer in Red Cross. My sat is a 1430 out of a 1600, but I am going to take it again and plan on getting higher than a 1500. I might take the ACT to try to get above a 32. I am going to SAT2S and try to get 750s or higher. With all of this and a potentially nice essay and teacher recs, can i get in? I also go to an extremely competitive STEM school in NYC.

As an athlete you may have a better chance, but you have to be extremely good, at your sport to be recruited; we’re talking top 10 or so in the country, because that 3.0 GPA is not competitive. Your SAT is okay.

As a NY resident, you will be paying full fees since California public universities do not provide funding for OOS students. Can your parents afford $60K per year?

Out of state students must have at least a 3.4 GPA to be qualified to apply. However, UC calculates GPAs differently than just using your high school GPA. They only count your sophomore and junior year grades, and they weight AP/IB credits for OOS applicants.
