admission mistake!

we already paid the admission fee for FSU.. but it was a mistake ( we though we paid the housing instead) do you know if it's binding? Do you know if now that we paid my D MUST go to FSU ? we don't mind loosing the money we already gave, but my D would be very upset if she is forced to attend!! she applied to 14 schools RD and she is waiting for other results!

i appreciate your answers..

Well the admission deposit is definitely not refundable but if you don't sign up for classes there is no tuition to pay and most of the housing deposit is refundable if you tell them before the deadline.

ADMISSION DEPOSIT

The University requires a non-refundable admission deposit of $200 from all freshmen accepted for the summer or fall terms. This deposit confirms enrollment intention and secures a place in our freshman class. You should submit your deposit as soon as you determine that Florida State University is definitely your college choice, but no later than May 1, 2009. If your deposit is not received by May 1, 2009, your admission to the University is subject to cancellation.

Its not binding, no one has to go. You just lose your deposit. If she does not go to Fsu, once you know for a fact that she does not intend to go, you simply notify them that she has changed her mind and will not be attending. That frees up her slot for another student. And technically, you are not supposed to hold two slots at once. So just notify them once she decides to go somewhere else so they release her and she puts a deposit down elsewhere.

thanks a lot!

Lavie

hopefully your d gets into all her schools and chooses to go to fsu. however if she decides not to go to fsu, try to contact admissions as soon as she makes her decision so it will open up a spot for someone who has fsu as their first choice and may have been deferred.
