Hi All,
I applied to Carleton ED and was wondering how ED applicants are notified of Admissions decisions. Mail? E-mail? Smoke signals? What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

Hi All,
I applied to Carleton ED and was wondering how ED applicants are notified of Admissions decisions. Mail? E-mail? Smoke signals? What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

The latter.

Regular old snail mail, unless you are overseas, in which case you should ask the Admissions Office how they will notify.

Beautiful blue folder, IIRC.

The blue folder arrives in a large white envelope.

Sounds like it made quite an impact on all of us. Good luck, thedr.

I remember when I applied ED. I picked up the mail on my way to a friend’s house and a letter from Carleton was there but I didn’t want to open it until I got home in case it was a rejection and then I’d be bummed when I was supposed to be hanging out. I opened it up at the first traffic light I got to. The blue folder is beautiful.

Thanks everybody! I’ll be on the lookout!

Anyone know when the letters are sent? Have they already gone out? Also, it is a thick vs. thin envelope situation? i.e. thin means rejection. Dying of suspense.

^If you get a large envelope the size of an unfolded sheet of notebook paper, that is good. Very, very good. It won’t be a thick envelope. It contains a beautiful blue folder with a few items inside, one of which is a letter telling you that Carleton welcomes you to its incoming class next year. I still get all tingly thinking about it.

The envelope will be large enough to include these:

Daughter applied ED. Here is hoping one of these blue folders is for her.

My son is graduating from Carleton this spring and he applied ED1. His acceptance letter arrived (a large white envelope with a stiff blue folder inside – too large to fit through our mail slot), on Saturday, December 12, 2008.

I remember this because we were out and he had stayed home to check the mail. I called to see if it had come and he said no. When I arrived home that evening, there it was – leaning up against the door. It had not occurred to my son to look outside.

Moral: Check a few days in advance of the notification date and make sure to check outside of the mailbox.

My son loves Carleton and could not have made a better choice.

We are waiting on another ED this year, but not at Carleton. Too bad, because at least I know the drill there!

Good luck.

All of these posts are my making me so nervous. I have a feeling that they will come in the mail today, but mine won’t necessarily be good news… Crossing my fingers for the blue folder!!

Same…I don’t think mine will come today though because I live on the east coast, and it seems no one from the Midwest has heard from Carleton yet. Good luck to you! This is the most nervous I have ever been in my entire life.

Based on xfan’s post (linking to the admissions post) it looks to me as though the envelopes weren’t mailed until yesterday at the earliest. It’s possible some people living nearby will hear today, but more likely tomorrow for them and a day or two later for those farther away.

Hey guys -

Letters will be received no later than DEcember 15th. ALL letters, regardless of the decision, were sent out at the same time (can confirm this personally), and have been sent, so don’t panic. Best of luck!!
