don't give up yet!

I'm pretty sure their "waves" are done by acceptance/rejection basis

I have been rejected. I hope everyone who has not received anything yet will be accepeted =).

yeah, i don't understand my decision either. my sats weren't great but my gpa was good, i've held down two jobs, speak three languages, spent a year in hungary, done sports and art. this got me into nyu but not american. something in this system is ****ed.

Something tells me that American really wanted to boost it's stats for the college guide books. I have a feeling after more than half the over-qualified candidates choose to go to NYU, GWU, Georgetown, etc.., and the other they let in can't afford the ridiculously high price of admission, American will have send out some acceptance letters to those who were rejected. Best of luck to everyone!

quatre-vingt, NYU sounds great for you. It doesn't sound right to me that you got rejected from AU.

Dark 2, I agree.

O well, I hope everyone else gets accepeted.

I hope so to Ryansheart, I just don't know if it's likely at this point :/

I was surprised when I was rejected. I got wait listed into the University of Pittsburgh for Fall 2009 but accepeted for Spring 2010 from out of state and they only accept 25 percent of their students from out of state. I am kind of like how did I not get in there?

I got my letter today, and I was waitlisted. I was actually thinking I would just get rejected, so hey.

GPA: 3.65 unweighted and 3.9 weighted
SAT: 1700; CR=610, M=520, W=570

I do a lot of school activities, including Model UN and I was the editor of photo/layout for my school's paper. I also volunteer at a community art museum and with the Human Rights Campaign.

American hasn't been one of my top choices in a long time, so I'm not that crushed. Actually, the main reason I applied was for easier access to internships w/ non-profits in DC.

I have very similar stats to you, liebe.

I got accepted last week or so, but I've only just got the admissions packet in the post.

32k Presidential Scholarship :o Wow, I was not expecting that
1940/2400 SAT
630 Maths II, 660 Biology-M SAT II
3 'A's at A-level, 2 'A's at AS-level

International student from England, but living in Singapore.

Congratulations, cdover!

I am actually impressed that my son got waitlisted. He has a 3.45 unweighted, and 5.47 weighted, in IB program. 2060/2400 SATs, 29 ACT. Extracurriculars generally only revolve around film/video/journalism, though. So maybe they thought he was a bit lazy (only took SAT once), or that he was too relaxed on his off hours - as relaxed as an IB kid could be. In our household it's fortunate that American was more my idea than his. He's not anxious about the waitlist and will look elsewhere. I think American made a good call in my son's case.

Congratulations CDOVER! Sorry that your son got waitlisted investorscooter. Hope everyone is accepted =).

Thanks GWU and Ryansheart!

It was all so surprising, getting the scholarship and getting into the Honors Program. I really hope they didn't give that to me by mistake :(. I'm getting worried!

Sorry your son was waitlisted investorscooter. I hope that he, and anyone else rejected, gets into another top choice university!

no to be bitter or anything, but i was not accepted the poli sci program w/ a 1320/2000 and a 3.65. can anyone explain why i did not get in? I have seen tons of kids on this thread accepted w/ lower stats to the program.....
my essays, recs and extracurriculars are great.

is it because i attend an extremely small xtian school?

A 1320/2000 is a pretty low SAT score, so that's probably why.

Rejected todayyy. BOO.

i got in with a 3.3 gpa 26 ACT so so essay no rec letter not even in the top 25% of my class
