Is there any data on the number of IB Career Programme (Biomed major) applicants that get accepted into UF? I’m wondering if this is a benefit when applying.
None that I know of. The state of Florida has a large number of High Schools with IB (and AICE) programs, and UF admissions does view it as a very rigorous program (which helps in admissions). Being in an IB (AICE, taking large number of AP classes or DE classes)program is viewed as a major plus in admissions.
UF also did a study, several years ago, that show’ed IB students did well at UF.
Just holding an IB Diploma won’t be enough to gain admission to UF. It may check the box for academic rigor, but GPA, SAT/ACT scores, essays and ECs are also of the uttermost importance.
According to their common data:
https://ir.aa.ufl.edu/media/iraaufledu/common-data-set/CDS_2017-2018_UFMain_7_20_18.pdf
- 77% of admitted students were in the top 10% of their high school class
- 97% had a GPA of 3.75 or higher
- SAT Ranges: EWR 620-710 / M 620-690
- ACT Ranges: 28-32
@Gator88NE Thank you! I did not know about that study!
@Beyou2022 appreciate the reply and yes fully aware of all of the other things and the importance they play in admissions.
My daughter is a year out, but currently has a 3.85uw/4.6w, Top 6% of her class, has a variety of EC’s including President of a club and numerous leadership roles, Varsity sport, holds a job, all the required and then some volunteering. SAT is only ok right now, but sure working on it. In the low range of UF acceptance #'s for testing, but strong everywhere else. We are just trying to be aware of and understand a little more about what it takes to make the cut. And totally understand that even with students who have everything, it’s no guarantee!
Things are looking great for your daughter! Maybe she should try the ACT next time? Many kids report performing much better in one style of test than the other.
Yes! She is signed up for March SAT, at school and the Saturday date, as well as April ACT. She did a “mock” ACT last year as a sophomores and scored a 28, so I’m hoping with the April test she can land 30 or up and then we can focus on that test alone. I feel for these kiddos! We did not have it this tough when I was a teen.
