Admission Process and Chances of getting into UK Colleges

I am going into Junior year of high school and will be part of the IB Diploma program after completing two years of the MYPIB program in the 9th and 10th grades. Overall so far my grades haven't been great, weighted GPA: 3.55, with 4 c's (2 in French, 1 in Chem, 1 in PreCalc) so far on my transcript. I am retaking both chemistry and precalc over the summer so that even if the grades dont get replaced the colleges will see the two different transcripts. I am also taking AP BIO over the summer.

I really would like to go to one of the following colleges in the UK, majoring in Economics.

Bristol University
University of Bath
London Business School
Imperial College of London
Durham University

I was wondering on what I should be taking courses and SAT/ACT's wise.

Currently I am planning on taking these tests. . .

PSAT

SAT I

ACT

AP:
Bio
Calc

IB:
Economics (SL - school doesn't offer HL)
Math II (SL)
French (SL)
Bio (HL)
History of the America's (HL)
English (HL)

SAT II's
Math 1
Math 2
Chem
Bio

I know that UK schools accept the IB Diploma and if that isn't there they want a minimum of 3 AP tests scoring a 5. I wasn't sure what else would be needed to help me with my process since I don't know the procedure for UK admissions. Also do I need to take all these tests? And how much will my low GPA freshman and sophomore year effect my chances? And how will my four c's effect me?

If you’re going the IB they won’t care about AP scores, SATs, your GPA or anything else. That said, your IB subjects don’t look brilliant - either econ or maths (preferably both) at HL is advisable. If you can’t do this then definitely do them at AP.

Imperial College London and the London Business School do not offer undergraduate degree programmes in economics. The former is a specialist science and engineering college whilst the later is a postgraduate business school.

Thanks :)

My school doesn’t offer econ in HL and I am not eligible to take math in HL but I will be taking the math AP test. I could defiantly take the AP test in Econ if that would help.

and yes I was aware of Imperial and LBS not offering undergrad econ programs I was also thinking about medicine and accidentally typed Imperial into the list xD

Would starting a finance and economics club at my school that participates in competitions be a positive factor for admissions?

Your grades aren’t good enough for medicine. UK Med schools will require at least biology and chemistry (and preferably maths too) at HL.

Regarding a finance and economics club, I’m not sure. I doubt whether it would significantly increase your chances, but mentioning it briefly in your personal statement couldn’t hurt. That said, proper extracurriculars that are relevant to your degree (e.g. working in a bank or having articles published in newspapers/journals) will be much better regarded.

In your personal statement you will be expected to talk about books you’ve read and what you thought of them and how they have influenced your decision to study economics. If I were you I would hit the books and do as much outside reading as possible, that’s what universities want to see - not silly school clubs.

My suggestions:

Either lower the ‘tier’ (for want of a better term) of your uni choices
or
Think about something other than economics, perhaps Business Studies instead.

You will be hard pressed to get a place at those unis for Economics without Maths Higher or Economics Higher from my experience. As was mentioned above relevant work experience and a solid personal statement will serve you better than small extra curriculars.
Without any work experience or similar unfortunately you can also pretty much forget about med school.

Do you have your predicted IB score yet? That is the most important thing.

I don’t have my predicted IB scores yet.

So you think that even though i’m an international student it would still be a strike against me for not having the HL’s in math and econ? Would the AP test scoring a 5 (highest score) help at all? Especially since the uni’s ask for 3 AP test for international students.

If you want to do Economics at one of those high ranking unis, you will probably be rejected if you’re not doing HL maths or economics.

Have you looked on the websites for these universities to see what their international admissions say?

edit;
I looked at Bath and Bristol and both of those will take APs instead of the IB, so you have a chance.
