I’m thinking of applying to several universities in the UK; namely
KCL
University of Edinburgh
LSE
UCL
I have mid-high 700s for the following four subjects
US History
Physics
Chemistry
English
and 800 for Math II.
SAT:1560(790 Math, 770 English)
I realize the last two universities require AP courses; but I’m going to give it a shot anyway
What course are you applying for?
It will be a waste to apply to UCL without APs. They do not consider SATs.
As @jupiter98 indicates, what course you are applying for will matter. If you are applying for a course that requires calculus for example (which a number of subjects do), the SAT II won’t be enough even if the uni accepts subject tests- b/c the coursework will assume a math background you can’t demonstrate.
@jupiter98
Is that 100% certain?
@collegemom3717
I’m applying to Psychology for KCL and Edinburgh which I heard is very competitive.
Yep, daughter applied last year. Had 750 in bio, UCL said give us a 5 on AP bio, we do not consider SATs.
Your stats look good for both KCL & Edinburgh. They are indeed competitive programs, but with your stats, international fees, a good rec & and a good PS you look like a strong candidate.
LSE, on the other hand, like UCL, means it when they say APs only. Been there, done that.
You are an IB student, no? Your HLs/IBD score is what will be on your school report. What are your predicted IB scores?
Assuming your US based school will predict IB scores. Ours will not.
He isn’t (or wasn’t) in the USA, I would imagine euro/asian boarding schools would be well versed in predicted IB scores. Although of course, they can be completely off base. I think this student is looking at an alternative to the IB requirements though. APs are pretty irrelevant for an international applicant applying to the UK that would seem to be an actual IB student. Maybe OP can clarify.
@Sybylla
I decided not to take the IB and took the traditional high school program at a private school; but still have my abysmal sophomore+freshmen grades. I was actually living in the States for quite a few years on and off; hence my screen name.
Bump.
What are my chances with those stats?
asked & answered above. the only way to know for sure is to apply.
