Admission stats for OOS vs in state students

My son will be applying the following schools as a oos, how much more gpa, test scores he needs than iss? What’s the acceptance rate for oos?
UCB, UCLA
UIUC
GIT
Purdue
Arizona State

See UCB and UCLA links:

Will you be able to afford UCB/UCLA at $55K/year with little to no FA for OOS?

The interesting thing is that in cases I’ve seen, the acceptance rate for OOS students is higher than in state students. Although don’t be fooled, admissions are usually tougher for them. In general your son will need higher than average GPA and test scores for all of those schools other than ASU and maybe Purdue. You can probably look up their individual OOS acceptance rates

^ That is due to the population of California and the much larger in state applicant pool.

Here’s a summary of Fall 2015 admission trends across the University of California campuses.

Long story short, budget uncertainty has actually created a window of opportunity for “full-pay” out of state (and international) applicants. The changes are less pronounced at UCLA and Berkeley relative to other campuses like Davis, Irvine and San Diego, but admission rate advantages do exist. To @gdlt234’s point, expect the academic bar is higher.

You mentioned that his ACT was 28 as an eighth grader. I don’t see what his lastest score was. I can tell you that at an info session for Purdue College of Engineering (among their most competitive schools), the avg ACT for incoming freshmen was 28. Assuming your son has improved on his 28, I’d say you can reliably consider Purdue a safety. My kiddo (OOS female comp engr major) got in w/o any trouble.
