Admission Tips for Penn

Essays. Make those essays good, relevant, and most importantly, personal.

As always ED, is really important if Penn truly is your first choice. My take on the reasoning behind this is that Penn is what people might consider (not that I agree) a “lower-tier Ivy” (at least compared to HYP) so they really favor ED applicants because accepting them boosts their matriculation rate.
Hmm…what else…
I think it really helps to attend as many Penn events as you can (school visits, interview if you get the chance, presentations at your high school). My friend and I (both accepted Wharton ED applicants) got to know our area’s admissions officer on a first name basis and now we still keep in touch.

Apply ED, and work on those essays. I must have edited mine 9+ times. Also, be passionate about your EC’s. Penn is really awesome about looking at the whole applicant. I got in with a 31 ACT score.

Definitely apply ED if Penn is your first choice. Son is an amazingly well rounded student/athlete/author and even had the writing professors at Kelly’s Writer’s house recommend him to admissions, which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself, but no guarantee of an acceptance. The professors told him to apply ED and son chose to apply ED elsewhere. Son was rejected from Penn regular decision and devastated. He should have listened and applied to Penn ED. He’ll be attending Univ of Michigan next Fall, but is still sad about the Penn rejection.

Get good grades, get a high SAT score. :)

1) Apply ED
2) Show you love what you do, and above all, show you love Penn (be very thoughtful in your essays)

^formula for getting into Penn.

Penn is NOT objective stat obsessed. You can get in with a 2000 on the SAT and a 3.75 GPA.

Im applying as a transfer and I love Penn. can someone please read my essay, I have a unique case, please???!!

What everybody else said.

And also, the following applies not just for Penn but other schools as well: write your essays thinking of yourself as already a Penn student. I think that definitely boosts self-confidence and helps with avoiding sounding like you’re begging the school to take you. The best way to show the school you’re a good fit? Be the student. Even if you don’t tell them all the things that you would do at Penn, why you love Penn, etc. etc., it’ll show in the tone and language.

Anyone,??? Please

Can someone come back to this thread? I’m applying ED to Penn this fall… bump?

Rumor has it that dean furda has a soft spot for some Mickey D’s Filet-of-fish… Sneak some into his office with a note and you’re golden ;)

Got it… haha but do you have any tips (other than McDonalds :stuck_out_tongue: ) specifically for UPenn?

Express a lot of interest through the essays and whatnot, but beyond that there’s nothing much specifically for getting in to Penn that distinguishes it from getting in to any other top school.

Idk, talk about interdisciplinary *****.
