Admission Tips

for those looking to get an idea on admission, the new Spring 2007 Vanderbilt Magazine is out. On page 31 is an article by the current Dean of Admissions packed with clues, tips, winks and nods. Read it carefully and parse the words being spoken. Mull the written words over in your best analytical frame of mind.
Look also at the common data set for factors considered important. Look at several past years for growth trends in different categories--it tells a lot info.

I know that all who applied from my senior kid's class were rejected. I already have one attending and it's a great school.

Good luck

do you have a link or something for the article?

I started a thread on this yesterday. I second musictoad's comments. I put the link in my thread, but here it is again: <a href="http://www.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/publications/index%5B/url%5D">www.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/publications/index</a>. Once you get there look under the Stay Informed column and there is a link to Vanderbilt Magazine. Now for the bad news, the spring issue isn't up on the web yet, but I expect that will be remedied in the next few days. I just got the issue in my mail yesterday and I imagine they just haven't imported the content into the web site just yet.
Great tips on applications, financial aid expectations, etc.

I'm getting "page not found".

<a href="http://www.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/publications/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.vanderbilt.edu/alumni/publications/index.html</a>
that might work
however, i can't seem to find any publications past the year 2006...

I found out that the current issue hasn't been made available because the magazine is undergoing a change in how web content is posted. They expect to have it posted in 3-4 weeks. Don't give up - it's a really good article and answers several of the questions I have seen on this site in recent weeks!
