Admission to elite universities (Harvard, Stanford and Columbia) any experiences?

So I have to study the target of an American elite university later times, preferably the Columbia University in New York, but I have my doubts, because all always speak of gifted genius with utopian IQ. Therefore, mic would be interested: Can a hard-working normally gifted person study?

And how likely is the inclusion of a university like Columbia?

Not: I am a international student.

Can not you answer a flat rate. After all, you need good grades (where not just the notes, but also the difficulty of the subjects is one). Then there are extremely high scores in the ACT/SAT and possibly TOEFL/IELTS/CAE language certificate to tell. There are a further 2-3 super essays and then you have them fit your nose.

Especially the US private universities the forefront internationally (Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, etc.) is in fact paid to a heterogeneous student body as possible and can be subordinated to a certain extent also the merit principle in the authorization. In other words: If the admission office of the mentioned universities is that a group (ethnic, religious or any other type of group may even athletes, etc.) must be strongly represented, are in fact “inferior” representatives of another group preferred to the student body to mix. As a rule, however, pay attention to the merit principle. And if the parents of the candidates were already at the respective university. Or if he/she knows or with somebody. Acquaintances communicates.

So you need not necessarily be gifted, much like the ACT/SAT scores can create practice, but without an above-average basic intelligence which is also likely to be slightly heavier (but possibly not impossible). High intelligence is thus important only to a certain degree, similar to hard work and ambition.

I think that was a given.

While Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia all have talented students who all add something to their class, they are not all “gifted genius[es]”.

@Liebesverbot

Bottomline, if you have the will to work hard then you have a chance with HYPS. You just need to show these elite colleges that you have the heart!!!

Regardless of all thee other issues, you need stronger English language skills to survive at any of these universities.

^^ Agreed. This from Columbia Admissions: https://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/apply/international

This from Stanford: http://admission.stanford.edu/application/international

And this from Yale: http://admissions.yale.edu/applying-yale-international-student

Although Harvard doesn’t require the TOEFL, they do look closely at International student’s SAT reading and writing scores to make sure that a student who speaks English as a second language can handle the work load. I imagine the SAT reading and writing scores need to be around 700 for Admissions to feel confident that an international student can read and write english proficiently.
